When I Grow Up...

I’ll show everyone how helpful a Wendigo can be. People judge me, thinking I'm like the others. I’ve heard stories about Wendigos getting so hungry they eat things they're not supposed to. But that’s not me. I will be the first vegetarian Wendigo, finding tasty berries and herbs in the forest. I want to use my quick feet to help lost hikers find their way back to the trails and make sure no one gets too cold outside. And if they're nice to me and super hungry, maybe I'll even share some of my berries with them... maybe.

Wendigo (wen-di-go)

Aliases: Windigo, Witiko, Weendigo
Native Name: Wiindigoo (Ojibwe)
Timeline: Pre-colonial North America
Location: Great Lakes region, Northeastern United States, Canada
Culture: Algonquian folklore

The Wendigo is a malevolent spirit from Algonquian folklore, associated with insatiable greed and cannibalism. Often described as a gaunt, humanoid creature with antler-like features, it is said to embody the consequences of unchecked hunger and isolation. Legends warn that individuals consumed by greed or who resort to cannibalism in times of scarcity risk transforming into a Wendigo, cursed to wander the wilderness in eternal starvation. The creature serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of excess and moral corruption.
